After investing 200 hours of intricate, detailed work on an instrument, Reedy can’t help feeling a tad sad when a fiddle sells.
“I hate to see them go most of the time,” says Reedy. “Each one of them is different — has a little personality.”
The $2,000 each of his custom fiddles fetch helps ease his separation pangs. He sells them at Celestial Mountain Music in Brevard.
Reedy’s fiddle-making, a hobby the retired chemist took up in 1990, is an amazing feat in itself. Reedy, now 66, lost his left hand in a farm accident. He was 28 at the time.
