Disabled Talent Show set for Sunday in Taipei

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The 12th annual soiree of the “Crescent Beauty — Disabled Talent Show” featuring mainly performances of amputees, will take place at 7:00 p.m. on the evening of Sunday, Nov. 30 at the auditorium in National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei.
Jointly organized by the Fu-Li Rehabilitation Association for Teenaged Amputees of the ROC (FLRATA) and the Taipei Fubon Bank Foundation, the event will mark the forthcoming International Day of Disabled Persons designated on Dec. 3 by the United Nations.

There will be fashion show, play, dances, and other talent performances by physically challenged people in Taiwan. READ MORE

One of the most talked-about sports stories of the past year is the controversy surrounding Oscar Pistorius , the bi-lateral amputee sprinter who is trying to make a bid for the Olympics and is appealing the IAAF’s ruling that he has a technical advantage.

Ossur, the maker of those Cheetahs, invites everyone to form their own opinion based on new information as presented by ESPN’s E:60, Good Morning America, Nightline, and ESPN Magazine.

What to see on April 15th:

• Good Morning America will air a segment between 7-9am
• ESPN’s E:60 will broadcast a 10-minute feature between 7-8pm.
• Nightline will look into the story at 11:30pm.

In addition, ESPN Magazine’s April 21st cover story will delve into Oscar’s case.

Cody on Ellen

One of the eighty gazillion email newsletters I subscribe to is the one for the Ellen DeGeneres Show (marketing is marketing and Ellen, et al, know how to market!)
Anyway, here's a blurb promoting her show for this Friday, January 11th.

"I wrap up my week of favorite kids with 6 year-old CODY McCASLAND from Dallas Texas. Cody is a double amputee who recently finished a marathon to benefit the hospital he's been attending since birth. Just wait till you meet this incredibly brave little kid and hear his amazing story."

Now, if I were Cody's prosthetist I would be marketing the heck out of his visit to Ellen.  But, that's just me.

At the very least, I'd be taping that segment and have it playing in the waiting room.

The Clearwater Marine Aquarium's dolphin with the prosthetic tail forges a special link with human amputees.

Marine Corporal Damon Werth
Late 20s, extremely fit, muscular and tall - 6'0" or taller, this highly trained "killing machine" is about to be decorated for heroism after a long tour in Iraq. Intensely committed to the Corps and nicknamed "Corporal Punishment" for the incredible rescue efforts of his captured squad in Iraq, Werth is currently at Bethesda being treated for post traumatic stress disorder. Dangerous and completely delusional, he stages a breakout and goes on a rampage. In his mind, he's still at war - although he occasionally comes back to reality where he appears tortured and emotional. There may be a shocking cause for his insane behavior -- a mystery that Gibbs and his team will ultimately unravel. MARINE HAIRCUT REQUIRED. Guest Star;

NAVY Lieutenant Dr. Adrian Dela Casa
Late 30s-50, Latino, tired and overworked, this doctor and attending psychiatrist at Bethesda is taken hostage by the escaping Werth. Rescued unharmed, he maintains his professionalism and decorum despite being badly shaken by his experience. When being questioned by the NCIS team, he is suspected of performing some taboo experiments on Werth. MARINE HAIRCUT REQUIRED. Guest Star;

Karen Sutherland
30s, brilliant, professional, positive and upbeat, she's a research and development engineer at a biotech company who has been developing cutting-edge new prosthetics for returning war vets. Suspected of helping her company implement a highly unethical "super soldier" program, Karen later proves to be a scrupulously honest and socially conscious woman who is devoted to charitable works and operates according to a strict code of personal ethics that is unshakable. Ray Vincent
Late 30s, a sharply tailored guy, this slick public relations consultant for the Navy is a smooth operator who is more concerned with appearances than substance. Marine PFC Nathan Stone
Early 20s, a soldier in Werth's unit, this gung-ho, baby-faced young man lost a limb in Iraq, and is currently undergoing rehabilitation in a V.A. hospital. He has Werth to thank for saving his life, but he's shocked to learn that Werth has gone off the deep end and is presently at large. Chris Jenkins
Late 20s-30s, a civilian hospital orderly who works at Bethesda. He's knocked down by the escaping Werth, who crashes through a window at the facility. We later learn that Jenkins has expensive tastes which the NCIS team believes he supports by stealing drugs from the hospital's pharmacy. Guest Star.

Dexter & a Charming Prosthetist

I don't have cable so I don't get Showtime.

So, I had no idea they had a "charming prosthetist" named Rudy on the show "Dexter."
Apparently they do - or at least they did.  I think Dexter killed him.

Dexter discovered at the end of last season that the charming prosthetist "Rudy" who was romancing Deborah was actually his long-lost brother Brian.

Do Not Fuggadaboutit

On Sunday, Sept. 9, James Gandolfini, star of the HBO series "The Sopranos," made his debut as an executive producer for his own Attaboy Films with the documentary "Alive Day Memories: Home From Iraq." The title refers to the soldiers' "alive day," the date on which they were injured but lived.

Gandolfini interviewed 10 soldiers, including those with amputations, traumatic brain injuries and severe post-traumatic stress disorder. READ MORE
